How to measure circularity

Guidance on commonly used metrics

Measuring circularity is gaining importance but remains challenging

Today, more and more corporates strive to transform “take-make-waste” business models to circular ones and seek to improve the circularity of products, processes or services. To manage this transformation, the choice of a suitable circularity metric is crucial.

However, as of today, there is no standardized way to measure circularity. In fact, the opposite is true: in recent years, various circularity metrics such as Circulytics, MCI, CTI and many others have been developed and for many companies it is not clear which metric to use.

We support you in choosing the right circularity metric

This whitepaper aims to support companies in choosing an appropriate metric. To this end, we present and evaluate three prominent circularity metrics with a focus upon how they can be applied, which input is required and what kind of output is provided.
